Standing on air: Workers busy with yearly check of Mount Hua's cableway

Inspectors check the cableway on Mount Hua in northwest China's Shaanxi Province on Thursday, December 5, 2019. In order to ensure the safety of visitors, the 21-day-long annual inspection of the cableway to the west peak Mount Hua began on November 15. Each of the cableway's trestles are inspected, which is a tough job, as the highest one is 65 meters tall and workers have to navigate cliff faces and sheer drops. The inspectors also have to cope with the harsh winter weather high up on the mountain. The 4,211-meter-long cableway on the west peak of Mount Hua went into service on April 1, 2013. The cableway crosses four deep valleys and three of the mountain's peaks. [Photo: VCG]
