Severe cold weather creates sheets of ice in northern Yellow Sea bay

Fishing boats shipping through sheets of ice in Laizhou Bay of the Northern Yellow Sea, Shandong Province, a coastal province in north China. Continuous cold weather has frozen the sea water around Laizhou Bay. The range of sea ice has spread one sea mile away from the coast and the thickest ice piece is 5 centimeters. Since the sea ice is mostly fractional, it has not had a serious effect on the local fishing industry. Sea ice in Laizhou Bay is rare and has not appeared since the 1980s. [Photo: VCG]
