The sun sets over the Everglades National Park in the United States. The Everglades National Park protects the southern 20 percent of the original Everglades region in Florida. The park is the largest tropical wilderness in the country, and the largest wilderness of any kind east of the Mississippi River. First celebrated in 1997, each year World Wetlands Day falls on the anniversary of the day the Convention on Wetlands was adopted: February 2, 1971. [File Photo: IC]
