The main 15-meter (49-feet) high pig lantern for the upcoming Qinhuai Lantern Fair was spotted testing its lights on January 15, 2019 in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, in southeast China. The annual Qinhuai Lantern Fair is a local folk culture festival in Nanjing for the Chinese New Year. The Lantern Fair is the oldest recorded holiday event in the country that can be dated back to 420 AD. In traditional China, colorful lanterns with riddles would be hung up for people to play with and literates would write poems for the fair. Nowadays, it has changed into an exhibition of large lanterns that look more like glowing sculptures. [Photo: VCG]
