Between 2003 and 2008, two judges in Pennsylvania, Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan collaborated with the owner and builder of a private juvenile prison to give heavy sentences to juveniles for misdemeanors in exchange for cash bribes. They netted more than 2.6 million U.S. dollars from their decisions in around 5,000 identified cases. The case was the subject of a documentary film "Kids for Cash" by director Robert May.
